in 1927, picasso was 45 & unhappily married to olga khokhlova when he met the 17 year old marie-thérèse walter. "you have an interesting face," he told her. "i'd like to do your portrait." having no idea who he was the story is that he took her to a bookstore to show her a monograph of his work. within a week they were having sex in the garden shed behind her mother's home in maisons-alfort.
in 1935, she became pregnant. when olga was told by a friend that her husband's longtime mistress was expecting, she immediately left picasso & took their son paulo to the south of france. picasso & marie-thérèse had a daughter, maría de la concepción on 5 september, 1935. eventually picasso moved on to to french artist & model, dora maar, in 1936. picasso always portrayed marie-thérèse and blonde & bright. she would never marry & she killed herself in 1977 four years after picasso's death.
